Matthew Bennett
UC Santa Barbara
PhD Student

Matthew started out as a high school science teacher (mostly teaching physics) without any formal training. Eventually, he earned his California teaching credential and certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. Now a PhD student in STEM Education, he's currently interested in how secondary science teachers facilitate connection-making in their classrooms, such as connecting physics equations and their corresponding mathematical principles and connections. He's also interested in how students approach and best make these connections, hopefully, eventually leading to identifying and utilizing practical means for getting effective strategies for connection-making and deeper learning into the hands of teachers.
