Arturo Nevárez is a doctoral candidate at the University of California, Riverside in the Education, Society and Culture program.  Previously a middle school and high school English teacher in South Central Los Angeles and Hawthorne, CA, Arturo’s dissertation focuses on the pedagogy of high school Ethnic Studies teachers and its impact on the critical literacies of their Latinx and Chicanx students. Arturo has had the opportunity to support future and current teacher candidates through his teaching in the Graduate School of Education at the University of California Riverside and the Teacher Education Division at California State University Dominguez Hills. Additionally,  Arturo’s organizing work supports the Institute for Teachers of Color Committed to Racial Justice (ITOC)—an annual professional development that assists the growth, success, and retention of teachers of Color who are racial-justice leaders in their schools and communities.
