Virginia Panish is the UCI Director of Teacher Education. She received her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from UC Riverside, where her research focused on how students and instructors negotiated participation structures in undergraduate science lecture halls. As the Director of Teacher Education Program, she works collaboratively with the faculty to maintain an educational environment that is supportive, rigorous, and innovative. At a programmatic level, Virginia collaborates with the Faculty Director to continue improving the curriculum in response to candidate feedback, research developments, and priorities of the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Prior to her work in higher education, Virginia spent 20 years working as a secondary social science teacher in urban and suburban settings.
