We Need to Talk: Cultivating Critical Conversations with Teacher Candidates

This session centers on tools for guiding teacher candidates in cultivating culturally sustaining practices and engaging in critical conversations about race. The vast majority of our teachers and teacher candidates are white, while the majority of students are Latinx, Black, Asian and other people of color. We’ll explore ways to prepare future teachers to infuse culturally sustaining and anti-racist teaching throughout their curriculum and pedagogy via inquiry and reflection. Participants will engage in critical conversations and consider how we can weave them into our interactions with teacher candidates.
