Transformative Teaching: The What, Why, and How of Culturally Sustaining Pedagogies
Rosemary Wrenn, Ed.D., University Supervisor & Lecturer, Cal Poly SLO
This presentation and talk back provides University Supervisors with resources and a framework for coaching candidates about what it means to become a critically conscious educator. We unpack concepts of culturally sustaining pedagogies and why it is crucial that educators understand how to validate their students’ identities and communities. We share practical ways to guide candidates to infuse teaching with relevant, responsive, and anti-racist practices that create space for children to thrive.
